I began my journey into visual storytelling at Pinewood Film Studios in England, apprenticing on 35mm film and later joining the BAFTA and Emmy-winning editing team of The World at War. At 24, I moved to America, where I wrote, shot, and directed fifteen feature films including The Lords of Magick and Stormswept. My path shifted when a friend asked me to photograph her wedding during an industry strike—what began as a favor became my life’s passion. Since then, I’ve photographed thousands of sessions: weddings on the beaches of Kauai, glowing maternity portraits, playful family shoots, and intimate couples sessions at sunset. I’ve been a Kauai-based photographer since 2008, often found with my camera on the beaches, cliffs, and golf courses of this island paradise. My photography art is rooted in philosophy and craft: I love bringing kids out of their shells, encouraging them to laugh and shine. I’m a stickler for backlight, knowing how it reveals the best dimensions. I believe editing is the icing on the cake, not a crutch. I welcome imperfections like hotspots if they tell the truth of the light. I direct with small gestures—point your toes, cross your ankles, dig into the sand, or kick for joy—because movement creates magic. In 2016, I began collaborating with Samuel R. J. Gillilan, an award-winning international Leica photographer whose work has appeared in Vogue, AP, Getty, and more. Together we’ve worked on corporate videos, weddings, events, and Kauai family photography projects, blending our strengths to deliver unforgettable images. Beyond photography, I am also an author. My first book, Into the Abyss (2004), received critical praise though modest sales, and since then I have written four more novels. My upcoming works include In the Land of the Destroyers, dedicated to my late wife (June 9, 2024), and Earth Will Fall (completed June 2025). Writing remains a vital part of my storytelling journey, and my photography is deeply influenced by my narrative background—every session is not just a set of poses but a story unfolding in real time.
